Budennovsk is a city named after Semyon Mikhailovich Budyonny, who was a participant in the First World War and the Civil War, and later became a knight of the full St. George bow and a great commander of the Great Patriotic War.

Budennovsk is located in the south-east of Stavropol, more precisely 220 kilometers away, on the Kuma River, in a unique transition zone between Europe and Asia. Until 1921, Budennovsk was called Holy Cross, then until 1935 - Prikumsk, until 1957 - Budennovsk, until 1973 again Prikumsk.

Higher educational institutions in Budyonnovsk include a Branch of the Institute of Friendship of the Peoples of the Caucasus and a branch of the Stavropol State Pedagogical Institute.
