Derbent is the southernmost city in Russia, which is located on the territory of Dagestan, between the coast of the Caspian Sea and the mountain ranges of the Caucasus. It is considered one of the oldest cities in the country, because the first settlements in Derbent were long before the era. In ancient times, Derbent played an important role in the development of the state, as it was part of the trade route connecting two parts of the world – Asia and Europe.
