In the center of the European region of the Russian Federation there is a "city of brides" - Ivanovo with a population of 400 thousand inhabitants. It is also called the Birthplace of the first Soviet, the Calico Region and the Russian textile capital. It is a very beautiful city full of monuments from different eras. That is why it is included in the route of the Golden Ring, along which hundreds of tourists pass every day.

What to see in Ivanovo

Dmitry Burylin Museum of Industry and Culture in the Lenin Avenue area. The Museum of Industry and Culture was originally opened in 1914 as a Museum of Rarities and Antiquities by industrialist Dmitry Burylin, where objects that he collected himself were displayed. Now the museum has several halls dedicated to the history and culture of Ivanovo and beyond.

Assumption Church on Frunze Street. In the north of Ivanovo, Lenin Street turns into Frunze Street, where the Assumption Gardens are located. Inside the garden there is a beautiful wooden Church of the Assumption. The church has a single dome and triangular roofs with a bell tower rising above the entrance.

Monument to Mikhail Frunze. The revolutionary Mikhail Frunze has a special connection with Ivanovo, as he participated in the 72-day strike in Ivanovo-Voznesensk in 1905 and was a member of its council. After the 1917 revolution, Frunze was the first chairman of the Ivanovo-Voznesensky Provincial Committee of the Communist Party and became one of the most senior Soviet military leaders. This monument to him was unveiled in 1957.

Monument to the soldiers of the 1905 Revolution. There is a Soviet-style monument on Revolution Square dedicated to the events of the 1905 revolution. The textile workers of Ivanovo-Voznesensk played an important role in this revolution, forming the first ever Council of workers' Deputies in Russia.

The monument depicts a worker raising a banner that fell out of the hands of his comrade lying on the floor. It was opened in 1975 on the 70th anniversary of the 1905 Revolution and renovated in 2005.

The Ivanovo Calico Museum tells about the development of the entire textile trade in Ivanovo from its inception to the present day. The museum displays some samples of the fabric produced, as well as the tools and equipment used to make it.

St. George's Church on the 40th anniversary of Victory Square. Work on the church began in 2005 on the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II and was completed two years later, in 2007. The church is a monument to those who fell during the Second World War.

Trinity Church near Pushkin Square. It was built between 2000 and 2007 as a replica of the Trinity Church, which stands in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra in Sergiev Posad. The Pokrovsky Monastery used to stand here until it was closed in 1764. After that, in 1819, a new stone Trinity Church was built and consecrated.

The monument to Lenin in Ivanovo is located on Lenin Square, which is located on Lenin Avenue north of the river Uvod. This monument was unveiled in 1956 and depicts Lenin standing on a pedestal in his usual pose, holding onto the lapel of a long coat. It has a height of 4.5 meters and replaced an earlier version, which was considered too small and insignificant compared to the surrounding buildings.

Monument to Yakov Garelin. Yakov Garelin was born in 1820 in the village of Ivanovo and became a successful manufacturer in the textile trade. Garelin was also known as a philanthropist who donated money to open and support hospitals, public libraries and museums. Garelin died in 1890 in Ivanovo-Voznesensk and in his will left most of his fortune to help the poor in the city.

The Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God was built between 1902 and 1904 outside the historical center of Ivanovo. In shape, it is a red brick church with three apses and topped with five black domes.

Shchudrovsky Chamber is the oldest stone civil building in Ivanovo and one of the most famous symbols of the city. The building dates back to the end of the 17th century, and there are two rooms inside. It was originally used as a local administrative building for the village of Ivanovo.

At the end of the 18th century, it became the property of a rich peasant and industrialist named Osip Shchudrov, after whom it received its current name. The building currently belongs to the Ivanovo State University named after Dmitry Burylin.

The Church of St. Elijah the Prophet is one of the most beautiful churches in Ivanovo, built between 1838 and 1842. The church was built in the classical style and is quite unusual in shape.

The Holy Dormition Monastery was founded relatively recently, in 1998, although it included the Assumption Church, built in 1843. The church was built at the expense of a local manufacturer and consists of a standard cubic building with five golden domes. Later, a large refectory and a side altar were added to the church.

Monument to the Heroes of the Front and Rear. Located in a small park on Friedrich Engels Street, there is a World War II memorial and an Eternal Flame dedicated to the heroes of the front and rear.

The Krasnaya Talka Memorial was opened in 1975 in memory of the revolutionary events of 1905, when textile workers rebelled and created the country's first council of workers' deputies. There is an obelisk and an Alley of Heroes with 16 busts of revolutionaries who operated in Ivanovo-Voznesensk during these years.

The Tsvetaev family House Museum is located in a wooden house where the Tsvetaev family lived from 1853 to 1928. The first family member to live here was the priest Vladimir Tsvataev, who had four sons, all of whom grew up here. After Vladimir Tsvetaev's death, his eldest son Peter inherited the house. Another son named Ivan was the father of the famous 20th century poet Marina Tsvetaeva.

Transport to Ivanovo

Ivanovo Railway Station is located in the north of the city quite far from the center and was built in 1932. There is a bus station next to the railway station. The main bus station is located in the south of the city. The train station is located about 600 meters from the main street of the city - Lenin Avenue. To get to the city center, take trolleybus No. 8 or No. 1, they go along Lenin Avenue. Station address: 3 Vokzalnaya Square.

Ivanovo bus station is located in the south of the city quite far from the center, but buses and trolleybuses run here often. There is also a small bus station next to the train station. The address of the bus station is 152 Lezhnevskaya Street.

Ivanovo - Yuzhny Airport is located about 7 km southwest of the city center and 11 km from the railway station. To get to the airport from the train station, take trolleybus No. 11 (it also passes by the Ivanovo bus station). Ivanovo airport address: 3 Lezhnevskoe highway.

Ivanovo is relatively easy to reach from both Moscow and St. Petersburg by train, and there are also many buses running between Ivanovo and the capital. Ivanovo also has good transport links to other cities of the Golden Ring, including Kostroma, Suzdal, Vladimir and Yaroslavl. In addition, buses connected Ivanovo with the regional cities of Kineshma, Ples, Shuya and Yuryevets.
