Mozdok is a city, the administrative center of the eponymous district of the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania of the Russian Federation (North Caucasus District). Mozdok is located in the southwestern part of the Caspian lowland - near the northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus, in the north of North Ossetia, on the left bank of the Terek River (bas. The Caspian Sea), 92 km north of the center of the republic – Vladikavkaz.

Mozdok's story

The settlement was founded in the Mazdogu tract (from Kabard. "dense forest") in 1763, as a fortress of the Caucasian fortified cordon line on the Tiflis highway, and in 1765 it was transformed into the city of Mozdok. In the first half of the 19th century, it became the administrative center of Mozdoksky uyezd, and after the construction of an oil refinery, it became a major economic center of the region. In 1970, a railway was laid south of the city, it lost its economic importance and became a settlement until 1925.

Currently, 40.1 thousand people live in Mozdok (2010). The majority of the population is engaged in agricultural production. Economic potential: enterprises of the woodworking, pulp and paper, light and food industries.
