Naberezhnye Chelny is a city in Tatarstan with a population of 530,000. It is located on the banks of the Kama River and is famous not only in the republic, but throughout Russia. First of all, the city was glorified by its sights. Many of them are one of a kind. Vysotsky Square belongs to such unique monuments.

The Borovets Ship Grove, one of the main natural monuments of Tatarstan, is also unusual. There is a fir tree growing there, which has given the grove a republican significance. Almost everywhere in Naberezhnye Chelny, you can come across squares, cozy parks and flower beds that give the city freshness. And architectural monuments with oriental motifs add color and brightness to it.

What to see in Naberezhnye Chelny

The City Museum of the History of Naberezhnye Chelny has many modern expositions and exhibits. Its first hall is dedicated to the nature and wildlife of the region, as well as the development of the city in the late 19th and early 20th century as a trading city, in which the interiors of shops with many models are recreated. There is a hall with many samples of old electrical equipment.

The most striking and unusual monument in Naberezhnye Chelny is the Monument to Mother Russia, which is part of the World War II memorial complex. It was opened in 1975 on the 30th anniversary of the end of World War II and is the work of Tatar sculptor Ildar Khanov, who was also the architect of the famous Kazan temple of all religions.

Musa Jalil Park, in the center of which there is a monument to Musa Jalil himself, one of the most famous Tatar poets. He is the only person awarded the Lenin Prize for Literature and awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for valor during World War II.

On the left bank of the Melekeska River, where it flows into the Kama River, there is the Tauba Mosque. It was built between 1989 and 1992 and has a modern look with a minaret rising from the north side. Its facades are covered with gray limestone tiles, and the roof is covered with a green roof.

In 2003, a monument to Vladimir Vysotsky was unveiled on a small square next to the Kama Hotel. This place was chosen specifically, as the famous Russian bard stayed at a nearby hotel for several nights during a tour in 1974. This is the tallest monument to Vysotsky in Russia with a height of 9 meters.

Just northeast of the New Town site is the former village of Borovetskoye, which was incorporated into the city. The Ascension Cathedral, which stands here, was built between 1872 and 1889 at the expense of Dmitry Stakheev, a representative of a successful merchant dynasty from Yelabuga.

The pedestrian zone around the Boulevard of Enthusiasts is perhaps the most pleasant area in the city. Along the entire boulevard there are several large avant-garde monuments created by the sculpture of Ildar Khanov and installed between 1982 and 1991. There are six sculptures in total, each of which is an abstract form made of concrete and decorated with colorful tiles.

One of the newest monuments in Naberezhnye Chelny is the statue of Gabdulla Tukai on Mira Avenue. Tukai is one of the most famous Tatar poets and is considered the founder of modern Tatar literature. The monument was opened in 2011 and includes a statue of the poet surrounded by characters from his stories.

The Ikhlas Mosque is located in the northeast of the city on Chulman Avenue. It was built in the 1990s and has a dome and a high minaret on the north side.

On the territory of the former village of Orlovka, which has since become part of Naberezhnye Chelny, there is the church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, which is not only the oldest building in the city, but perhaps the most beautiful.

On the right bank of the Melekeska River, where it flows into the Kama River, in the northwestern corner of the Zyabsky district, there is the church of St. Seraphim of Sarov. The church was built between 1996 and 2006 on the site where the Church of St. Elijah the Prophet used to stand.
