Nadym is a city, the administrative center of the district of the same name in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of the Tyumen Region of the Russian Federation (Ural District). Nadym is located in the northern part of the West Siberian Lowland in the central part of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (100 km south of the Arctic Circle), on the left bank of the Nadym River (7 km west of the main channel, bas. Ob), 290 km southeast of the district center – Salekhard.

Transport in Nadym

Transport links: by waterways – river port 9 km east on the Nadym river. Airlines is an airport 7 km from the city, from where planes fly to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen and other cities of Russia. Highways Nadym–Novy Urengoy, Nadym– Priozerny (the Nadym–Salekhard road opened in 2020), there is a bus station; the nearest railway station is Stary Nadym, 18 km away on the right bank of the Nadym River (railway construction is planned. Nadym–Salekhard).

The history of Nadym

The settlement was established in 1967 on the site of the barrack settlement of Novy Nadym, as a support base for the development of the Medvezhye gas field. In the late 1970s, the capital construction of the village began. Nadym became a city in 1972. Nadym is the third (after Nov. Urengoy and Noyabrsk) is the largest city in the autonomous Okrug, with a full range of socio-cultural institutions.
