Pechora is a city of republican subordination, the administrative center of the eponymous district of the Komi Republic of the Russian Federation (North-Western District). Pechora is located in the northeastern part of the East European Plain (Pechora Lowland) west of the Circumpolar Urals, in the northeastern part of the republic, on the right bank of the Pechora River (Barents Sea basin), 588 km northeast of the republican center – Syktyvkar.

The history of Pechora

The settlement was formed as a working settlement of the Pechora station in 1940 during the construction of the North Pechora Railway, which opened the way to the development of the northern territories in the Pechora River basin. In1949, after the unification of the villages of Pechora and Kanin Nos, the city was formed, which became a transshipment cargo base, and after the construction of the Pechora GRES (1974-79) — the city of power engineers.

The economy of Pechora

Today, Pechora stretches over an area of 28.9 thousand square kilometers, is an important transport hub and the "energy capital" of the Komi Republic. Economic potential: GRES, oil industry, river shipping, enterprises of railway transport, forestry and food industry.
