What to see in Podolsk

The central square of Podolsk is Lenin Square, where the main streets of the city converge. From here, Lenin Avenue runs north across the Pakhra River. You can walk around the city, although bus No. 4 runs directly between the railway station and the Ivanovskoye estate, and buses No. 1, 21, 22, 39 and 45 run from the railway station to the Podillya Museum-Reserve (bus stop "Military Enlistment Office").

The monument to Empress Catherine the Great stands in a small park known as Catherine Square. The monument depicts Catherine sitting at a desk and signing a document, and is dedicated to the assignment of Podolsk city status in 1781.

The regional museum in Podolsk hosts exhibitions dedicated to the economic, social, political and cultural development of the city. It is located on the territory that was once the Ivanovskoye estate. The main house of the estate dates back to the end of the 18th century, when the estate was inherited by Count Fyodor Andreevich Tolstoy, who rebuilt it. The house overlooks the now overgrown gardens that descend to the Pakhra River.

The most interesting and impressive moment of Podolsk, perhaps, is the monument to Podolsk cadets. This impressive monument is made of stainless steel and depicts three cadets marching into battle under a large star. It is dedicated to the cadets of the Podolsk Military School who joined the regular army.

Along the picturesque basin on one side of the Pakhra River, a historical and architectural museum-reserve was created, demonstrating how Podolsk looked at the end of the 19th century. The reason for the existence of this museum-reserve is that Lenin's mother, his brothers and sisters lived here, and he came here twice. The Vladimir Lenin House Museum, which is the basis of the museum-reserve, was opened in 1937 in the house where the Ulyanov family lived (Lenin's original surname).

The Church of the Resurrection of Christ is located in Talalikhin Park. The church has been standing here since the 16th century, when the village of Podol belonged to the Moscow Danilov Monastery. Between 1724 and 1728, the old wooden church was replaced by the current stone version.

The Trinity Cathedral was built between 1819 and 1822 to commemorate the victory over Napoleon. It is an example of church architecture in the Empire style with five domes, columns and an attached three-tiered bell tower. It is the main cathedral of Podolsk.

On Lenin Square, where Lenin Avenue branches off to Kirov Street and Bolshaya Serpukhovskaya Street, there is a standard monument to Lenin overlooking a busy intersection. Lenin came to the city at least twice to visit his family who lived there.

On the Square of Glory there is a War Memorial consisting of an eternal flame, an obelisk and giant stone tablets with engravings of soldiers in the midst of battle. Podolsk was not occupied during World War II, but was bombed by the Luftwaffe.

The Dubrovitsy estate was first mentioned in 1627 and has since belonged to the noble families of the Morozovs, Golitsyns, Potemkins and Dmitriev-Mamonov. The Golitsyn family owned the estate for more than 100 years and was responsible for its development. There is a manor house built between 1750 and 1753 by Prince Boris Golitsyn's grandson Sergei Alekseevich. Behind the house, steps lead down to the picturesque Desna River.
