Sarapul is a city on the banks of the Kama River, which flows through Udmurtia. It was founded as a fortpost in the middle of the 16th century. The first mention of the city can be found in the Watch Book of 1579. The distance from Sarapul to Izhevsk is 62 km, to Moscow - 1143 km.

The city has developed mechanical engineering, manufacturing, radio equipment production, food industry, light industry and woodworking and agriculture.

What to see in Sarapul

The modern city of Sarapul has not lost its national flavor, despite the passage of time. It is still an excellent example of a merchant town and a river settlement, the peak of which occurred at the end of the 19th century. Therefore, it has preserved many houses in the traditional Russian style. These are structures made of wood with lace carvings.

Also, only in Sarapul there is a museum to the scientist-miner Melnikov, who was founded by residents in honor of a famous countryman. It was opened in 1987.
