Sayansk is a city of regional subordination in the Irkutsk region of the Russian Federation (Siberian District). Sayansk is located in the south of the Central Siberian Plateau in the eastern part of the Leno-Angarsk plateau, in the western part of the Irkutsk region, on the right bank of the Oka River (right tributary of the Angara River, bas. Yenisei), 270 km northwest of the center of the region - Irkutsk.

The history of Sayansk
The settlement was formed as a working settlement of Sayansk in 1970 during the construction of a chemical enterprise based on the Ziminsky deposit of rock salt. In 1985, it was transformed into a city of regional subordination. The city-forming enterprise was Khimprom (production of caustic salt, PVC resins, 4-x carbon chloride, household chemicals).
Currently, Sayansk is spread over an area of 82.5 square kilometers, where 38 thousand people live compactly, is the youngest (the average age of residents is 36 years old), environmentally friendly (12 km from industrial enterprises), well-maintained and cultural center of the Irkutsk region.
