Slavgorod is a small town of regional subordination in the middle of the Kulunda steppe, four to five hours by bus and train from Barnaul, the capital of the Altai Territory. It is picturesquely located between two lakes – Sikachi and Bolshoy Yarovoye.
The combined architecture of the modern and old city is decorated with towers and domes of the mosque, Catholic and Orthodox churches. The city is being equipped with modern residential and commercial buildings, park areas for recreation. There are sports and cultural and entertainment facilities, institutions for the younger generations.
The history of the city's origin is interesting. The reason for this was the "Stolypin" reform carried out by the government in order to settle the empty lands of the country.
Some time after the announcement of the reform, while making a trip to Siberia with an inspection, Reformer Minister P.A. Stolypin visited a settlement near Lake Sikachi. His words that a glorious city could grow out of this settlement served as the idea for the name "Slavgorod".
Thus, Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin is legitimately considered the father of Slavgorod. Two years ago, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the city, citizens installed a bust of the tsarist reformer at the intersection of Komsomolsky and Leninsky Avenues.
