Syktyvkar is the capital of the Komi Republic. The city is located at the place where the Sysola River flows into the Vychegda River. Previously, the city was not called: Ust-Sysola churchyard, Ust-Sysolsk city (1780), Syktyvkar (designates near Sysola), Kar (designates the city), Syktyvkar (1930).

The official one is the Ezhvinsky district of Syktyvkar, other districts: the Central district, Oktyabrsky district, Orbita district, Southwestern district, Davpon district and Lesozavod district.

Syktyvkar has a well-developed forestry, woodworking, pulp and paper industry, textile and food industries.
