Tarko-Sale is a city, the administrative center of the Purovsky district in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of the Tyumen Region of the Russian Federation (Ural District). Tarko-Sale is located in the northern part of the West Siberian Plain, in the southeastern part of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, on the right bank of the Pyakupur River (bas. Pur river) below the mouth of the Aivasedapur River, 550 km southeast of the district center - Salekhard and 145 km upstream from Urengoy.

Transport in Tarko-Sale

Transport links: by waterways – a river port; by airlines – an airport on the northeastern outskirts (5 km south of the city - a heliport); by the Tarko–Sale - Purovsk highway (with access to the Surgut–Novy Urengoy highway). The nearest railway station is Purovsk (13 km on the left bank of the Pyakupur River) on the Surgut–Novy Urengoy line.

The history of Tarko-Sale

The settlement was founded in 1933-1935, as a future regional center, on the site of the nomadic camp of the Nenets (from Nenets. Talka salya is a settlement at the confluence of rivers). The village developed chaotically, was built up with wooden houses, a reindeer herding farm and a fishing artel were created. It was developed in the late 1960s during the development of large oil and gas fields and the construction of a gas pipeline and railway. In 1976, it received the status of a work settlement, and since 2004 it has been a city.

The economy of Tarko-Sale

Currently, Tarko-Sale is the center of an urban settlement, the main industry of which is oil and gas production. Economic potential: gas and oil producing, gas transportation enterprises, gas condensate processing plant.
