Ust-Ilimsk is a city in the Irkutsk region on the banks of the Angara River. Long before the founding of the city, there was a dense, impenetrable taiga with an appropriate climate, the temperatures of which can only be compared with the severity of the far north. Sometimes in winter in Ust-Ilimsk the temperature drops to -50C.
The history of Ust-Ilimsk
The city of Ust-Ilimsk began to be built up in 1965 and became a project of graduate students of the Leningrad University of Architecture, which they called "The City of my Dreams". Therefore, the city is unique and very favorable for life.
Ust-Ilimsk cannot boast of ancient monuments, but its sports life is developed with dozens of sports grounds, stadiums, a couple of swimming pools and even a ski center. But the main building, which is considered a symbol of the city, is the Drama and Comedy Theater.
The economy of Ust-Ilimsk
Logging and sawmilling, lumber and pulp production, hydropower, coal mining, and food production are developed in the city.
