Yakutsk is the capital of Yakutia, an autonomous republic in Russia, which is also known as Sakha. According to the type of climate, it is the harshest city in which hospitable people live. 1632 is the date of its foundation. In summer, there are white nights in Yakutsk, and in December the day is only 3-4 hours. The distance from Yakutsk to Moscow by road is 8,400 km.

What to see in Yakutsk

The most interesting and colorful place in Yakutsk is the Old Quarter, full of cobbled streets and buildings in the original Russian style of the last centuries. Thanks to the Old Quarter, a calm and very cozy atmosphere is created in the city.

Yakut museums are also very interesting, as they have no analogues anywhere else. For example, a unique mammoth museum with a collection of the remains of these animals. Many relics date back to the Ice Age. The Mammoth Museum was founded right on the spot where the first remains of extinct animals were discovered.

Transport in Yakutsk

The city has a river port on the Lena River. You can reach Sangara, Zhigansk, Tiksi and Olekminsk by river. There is no railway in Yakutsk yet. There are two airports in the city: Yakutsk International Airport and Magan Reserve Airport. The A-360 Lena highway ends in the village of Nizhny Bestyakh, across the river from Yakutsk. There is a highway "Kolyma" Yakutsk — Magadan.
