Yeniseisk is a city of regional subordination, the administrative center of the Yeniseisk district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory of the Russian Federation (Siberian District).

Yeniseisk is located in Eastern Siberia on the Yenisei plain, in the northwestern edge of the region on the left bank of the river. The Yenisei (bas. Kara Sea) is 9 km south of the mouth of the Kem River (right tributary), 337 km north of the center of the Krasnoyarsk Territory — Krasnoyarsk. The city has a river port and an airport, and there is a car connection (a/d R-409) with Krasnoyarsk.

Yeniseisk was founded in 1619 by Tobolsk Cossacks as the Tunguska ostrog (military fortress). Due to its convenient geographical location, it is developing rapidly, from a prison it turns into a shopping center (a transshipment point for the advancement of Russians to the east and south of Siberia) The Yenisei region.

Since 1626 Yeniseisk is a county town and for 2 centuries it became the main city and the main gate of Eastern Siberia. After the construction of the Trans-Siberian railway, it becomes a remote outback. Since 1863, regular navigation along the Yenisei has been started.

During the years of Soviet power, it became the center of the forest industry of the region and a major river port. Now the area is 6641 hectares, the population is 18.9 thousand people (2010), does not have large enterprises, but the urban infrastructure is sufficiently developed. Attractions: Museum of Local Lore, Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery (1642), Epiphany Cathedral (1738-1764), Resurrection Church (1735-1747), Trinity Church (1772-1776), Assumption Church (1793-1818) and many architectural monuments.
