Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is the administrative center of the Sakhalin Region in the Far East. Its population is 194 thousand people. Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk was first formed as a small village of Vladimirovka in 1882. For 40 years in the 20th century, it belonged to Japan, called Toyohara. But in 1946 it passed to Russia, receiving its modern name. The city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is characterized by a stable economy and developed industry.
